a very close friend of mine recently described me as a "pursuer" ...
backstory: we were talking about friendship, in general, not ours, but we came to the topic of the type of people we are friends with. she described me as a pursuer - the one who calls, who checks in, who leaves messages. and while that's all wonderful for those who are pursued, we talked about what that meant for me...
we eventually moved to the topic that people are no longer using the phone as a means of communication. it's really come to my attention lately - and i think if i had the time to really think about it - it would really bother me... but for the time being, it is what it is. there are relationships that are limited by distance (my best friend in europe) and time zones (friends back east) but friends that are local.. everyone is so invested in facebook... no reason to chat or anything b/c you can read about how people are doing on FB.
anyway - i like to get these things out there. it allows for some space in my head to empty.
so today's musing: from this mother of 1 and one on the way - being a "phone person/pursuer" makes for a lonely existance when the rest of the world is a "facebook user/pursued".
we are a lazy generation by all means. but ya know, each person has their own preference of communications. some via phone, others via letters, others via email. to each their own.
ReplyDeletei think that's the toughest is figuring out what works for you and what works for others.
i'm an email/letters kinda gal myself. never been a phone person, sorries.
esther said it best but at the same time, your "pursuer" nature is def. to be praised/cherished. *hugs* Life seems to go so fast theses days - i just dont know how you manage a full time work, school, a toddler and now a new baby - oh dont forget about Mike too. ;)
