the giving project + i'm getting better at this!

so i never really knew what lent was until maybe about 5-6 years ago. my friends, both catholic & christian, would "give up" something on ash wednesday to "reclaim" it on easter sunday. if you want more of the historicity behind lent, you can click here and it'll send you to the wikipedia entry.

anyway, i'm writing this post, b/c a friend on FB suggested that rather than take something away, think of something one could DO! :) i thought that was brilliant! SOOO, i have a plan. i'm going to try to send out a home made card everyday during lent and i'm hoping that i'll work, even though it's going to take up a lot of time on my end. maybe by blogging it, it'll keep me accountable. I hope it happens!

this card and another one i'll post are two that i've done that i'm actually proud of. i'm getting better at stamping!!! :) the valentine's card i did for the hubs (you'll see it tomorrow)... WOW, that is just... precious, BUT in my defense, it was my 3rd card! :)

DAY ONE

this card is for a friend i don't get to talk to much but when we hang out it's like nothing's changed. she is expecting her second child (a boy!) and is a full-time working momma.

paper - the envelope packs from Michaels (haha)
stamps - TSoL Boots4Rain
ink pads - TSoL artichoke, celery, sky (i think)
extras: Maraschino Twine from the Twinery

note: the cool thing about this card is that i used a stamping technique called "masking" - wonder how the water isn't covering up the boots? or how you don't see the overlapping line on the boots? MASKING! :D
